MOSS 2007 with SQL Server 2008 - Installation Walkthrough

Continuing from my other post, Installing SQL Server 2008, I'm installing MOSS 2007 to run with SQL Server 2008. Since SQL Server 2008 came out after MOSS 2007, there is some hoops you have to jump through to pull this off. You have a choice: download MOSS 2007 SP1 or download the MOSS 2007 SP1 Trial version (has SP1 built in). I downloaded the MOSS SP1 Trial Version, so that is where my screen shots came from.

If you are looking to Configure MOSS 2007, then click here.

MOSS Downloads

Download 32-bit Edition (Full Trial Version with SP1)
Download 64-bit Edition (Full Trial Version with SP1)

WSS Downloads

Download 32-bit Edition (Full Trial Version with SP1)
Download 64-bit Edition (Full Trial Version with SP1)

Ok, as usual, here's the good old License Terms. Do the usual, agree and click next.

Choose the install you want to do. For this walkthrough, I'm going to click advanced. If you are just installing MOSS 2007 / WSS 3.0, and you do not want to use SQL 2008 (or 2005), then just choose Basic installation and follow the instructions from the screen prompts.

I'm going to be doing a complete install for MOSS 2007 for two reasons: 1) This is the first MOSS 2007 server; 2) This install will allow me to add future MOSS 2007 servers.

For the sake of your sanity when developing with SharePoint, I highly recommend you keep the default directories for SharePoint to be installed. If you modify it here, many examples and tutorials you find on the Internet will have to be interpreted to match your custom environment. So, don't change the directory just to be on the safe side.

Just like the SQL Server 2008 installation, if you have made it this far then you have made it past many pre-installation checkers. Once completed, you will see the image below. MOSS 2007 is installed now, but not configured.

Enjoy!
